VAMMHA BOD: Department of Housing and Community Development
On July 19, Governor Kaine announced the reappointments of four members to the Virginia Manufactured Housing Board. Walter Hughes of Franklin County was reappointed to represent manufacturers, William H. “Bill” Moody of Covington was reappointed to represent dealers, and Ava Lewis of Lancaster County and Michael Nickell, Augusta County Building Official, were reappointed as public representatives. The four-year terms of these members will extend until 2010, providing continuity and experience to the board.
During the following board meeting on July 27, members elected new officers as required by by-laws. Bill Moody was elected Chairman, Michael Nickell was elected Vice Chairman, and Curtis McIver was selected to serve as secretary for the next two years. Bill Toombs, a dealer representative with Clayton Homes in Chester, was recognized for his service as chairman during the last two years.
The meeting was held in Williamsburg at the invitation of the Virginia Manufactured and Modular Housing Association (VAMMHA), who were thanked for hosting the meeting. VAMMHA was holding its annual convention while the board met. The opportunity for both groups to meet in the same facility provided opportunities for members to attend both meetings and discuss mutual issues of concern one-on-one. These discussions provided opportunities for board members to gain understanding of situations confronting the industry, and joint meetings are desired in the future.
The November meeting will be held in conjunction with the Governor’s Housing Conference, as part of the pre-conference activities on November 29, 2006. The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. – noon at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott.
Registration for the Governor’s Housing Conference and several pre-conference workshops will begin in the afternoon. For more information about the conference, visit: www.dhcd.virginia.gov and select Governor’s Housing Conference 2006.
Various housing topics will be addressed during the conference, including sessions on the potential benefits of modular and manufactured housing. Each year the conference proves beneficial for those involved in virtually all aspects of housing in Virginia.
