SHIPMENTS OF HUD-CODE HOMES DOWN 46.7% IN OCTOBER 2006
Arlington, VA, November 30, 2006—The Manufactured Housing Institute’s actual shipments report indicates that 9,294 new HUD-Code homes were shipped in October 2006, a decline of 46.7 percent compared to October 2005. Shipments of single-section homes were down 74.6 percent, year-over-year, while shipments of multi-section homes were down 6.5 percent.
The sizable year-over-year decline in October 2006 is largely due to the approximately 6,980 FEMA-purchased homes that shipped in October 2005. Excluding these shipments, the year-over-year decline in October 2006 would have been 11.1 percent.
Through October, total HUD-Code shipments are down 11.5 percent, compared to 2005. Over this period, single-section shipments are down 17.6 percent while multi-section shipments are down 8.8 percent.
In October 2006, shipments were down in eight of the nine Census Divisions including the West South Central (-63.4 percent), East South Central (-59.4 percent), South Atlantic
(-49.1 percent), Pacific (-27.8 percent), East North Central (-22.5 percent), New England
(-16.8 percent), Middle Atlantic (-14.8 percent) and Mountain (-14.3 percent) Divisions. Shipments were essentially unchanged in the West North Central Division.
In October, shipments were up in 9 states, down in 32 states and flat in 9 states, compared to October 2005. Shipments were up in South Carolina (44.6 percent), Minnesota (26.6 percent), South Dakota (23.5 percent), Connecticut (17.2 percent), Idaho (16.9 percent), Kansas (16.7 percent), New Mexico (14.2 percent), Wisconsin (7.1 percent) and Oklahoma (4.9 percent)
Shipments were down in Arkansas (-86.3 percent), Maryland (-77.7 percent), Louisiana
(-76.6 percent), Mississippi (-73.1 percent), Alabama (-70.8 percent), Nebraska (-61.5 percent), Virginia (-55.6 percent), Florida (-49.2 percent), New Jersey (-43.4 percent), Ohio (-42.1 percent), Delaware (-40.6 percent), Vermont (-35.6 percent), Georgia (-35.3 percent), California (-32.7 percent), Iowa (-32.1 percent), Michigan (-32 percent), Montana (-31.1 percent), New Hampshire (-28.6 percent), Oregon (-28 percent),Arizona (-27.5 percent), Colorado (-24.5 percent), West Virginia (-19.4 percent), Texas (-17.1 percent), Pennsylvania (-16.9 percent), Maine (-16.2 percent), North Dakota (-13.9 percent), Washington (-12.3 percent), Tennessee (-9.9 percent), Nevada (-9.7 percent), Indiana (-8.2 percent), Kentucky (-8.1 percent) and New York (-6 percent).
Shipments were essentially unchanged in Massachusetts, Missouri, North Carolina, Illinois, Utah, Wyoming, Rhode Island, Alaska, and Hawaii.Total floors shipped in October were 16,350 down 34.7 percent from October 2005. The number of reporting plants for October was 208, down two from September. The number of corporations was 67, unchanged from September.
